01 / PROBLEM
Problem#
Notifications, pull requests awaiting review, issues, Actions, and followed activity live on separate pages. The desktop dashboard brings them into one entry point: see what needs attention, then open the relevant GitHub page to act.
02 / STRUCTURE
Structure#
A status-bar entry opens five views: overview, notifications, work, following, and repositories. Background services use the existing gh login to read REST / GraphQL data, normalize it into cards, and cache it. A separate notification service handles pagination, polling, and read state. The interface is separate from the data services, and card links retain their specific context.
03 / TRADEOFF
Trade-offs#
The first version was read-only, leaving actions to GitHub. Legacy mode remains read-only by default in the current version. Synced mode optionally enables notification read-state synchronization; automatically marking a notification as read when opened requires a separate setting. Bulk marking affects only unread items in the current filtered list. The following feed combines public events and releases from starred repositories, so it differs from the GitHub web home feed.
04 / RESULT
Outcome#
The original plugin was merged into the Noctalia community repository through PR #739. Subsequent work fixed refresh and caching behavior and added optional notification synchronization through PR #944. This page covers version 0.2.4. Public PR records include interface and real-data read checks on Hyprland; this site has not separately run the plugin.
